Sacred water the flows from snowy mountains and river terraces.
Tsunan, in southern Niigata, is known for the heavy snowfall on its 2,000m tall mountains, including Mt. Kirinoto. It melts into rich, crystalline water that is counted among Japan’s 100 best waters. It is ultra-soft, fine, and mellow; perfect for sake.

Tsunan’s famous Gohyakumangoku.
This grassroots brewery was established in 1996 by sake rice farmers, the town, and the JA. It is made using Gohyakumangoku sake rice from local Tsunan farmers.
