What is Ichikikushikino City?
Ichikikushikino is located on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture on the Southern island of Kyushu. While we are a small city of 27,000 people, we are blessed with good food and drinks that are unique to our area thanks to our rich natural environment and mild climate.
One of our main specialties is the Sour Pomelo, a citrus fruit, with a rich fragrance and crisp texture, that tastes fresh and sweet. Shochu, distilled alcohol made from sweet potatoes, is another specialty. Our city is proud to be the home of seven different shochu distilleries. We also recommend our Tuna, as we have the most tuna fishing vessels in the world. Tuna is used to make specialty dishes like tuna ramen which can only be found in our city. Satsuma age (fried fish cakes), Chirimen (dried young sardines) and Ponkan oranges are other of our famous local products.
Our city may be small, but we have a significant presence in the food culture of Kagoshima, Kyushu and all over Japan.
